Could someone please help me with my math? We all know I only do word games, no numbers. Well, I got an ad from Penny in the mail today with specials on the Puzzle Collection books. It says, save 52%. For 4 volumes of What's Left they ask $15.75. Normally they are $5.25 apiece. Four times 5.25 is 21.00. 21.00-15.75 is $5.25. I know my math is bad but is that 52%? CC

Your math isn't that bad, CC. There's something strange about that ad. I either didn't see the ad, or threw it out because I don't need more puzzle books
right now. So I don't have the full ad page to look at. It may be that the 52% savings refers to something else (such as, if you order a really, really
large quantity at once). Otherwise, there's a big typo in the ad -- they may have meant to put that people could save 25%, and the digits got reversed
to 52 instead of 25.

If you can get 4 volumes for the price of 3, that's a 25% savings. It's probably a terrible typo to make it look as if the savings is as much as 52%. If
someone could hold Penny to the 52% rate, it would mean that for 4 volumes, which are normally $21, they'd have to give 52% off $21, or a $10.92
discount, resulting in a net price of $10.08.

I wonder if they will honor it because of the goof in printing. Maybe they could take the excess out of the hide of whichever employee goofed in the
typesetting, and/or the proofreading.

I don't have the ad, but am wondering if the shipping cost is factored in at all with the savings. I know shipping for a single volume is $1.50, so maybe there's additional savings with the shipping by purchasing multiple books at once.

PP the shipping did'nt have anything to do with the price, I actually thought of that, but no. Amy, as usual, your brain is always working hard but even reversing the numbers it does'nt come out right. I have to admit though, the 52% off caught my attention if that is what they were going for. If this is true would it not be false advertising? CC

Reversing the figures, I think the math then DOES come out right. Four normally at $5.25 = $21. Three normally at $5.25 = $15.75. As I recall from the
first post on this subject, they're offering people 4 for $15.75, a $5.25 discount off the normal price. One-quarter of $21 = $5.25. The discount is one-
quarter (ie 25%) of the normal price, as I see it.

I know they did, but if they had meant to say 25% off, the $15.75 would have made sense. Well, if you want 52% off the $21, try asking them for a $10.92
discount because their ad says 52% off, meaning write your check for the net price of $10.08. Maybe you can hold them to it because of the "52% off"
phrase in their ad.

But I bet they'll be a lot more careful after this when it comes to the ad copy!

Thank you all for your feedback on the offer on special collections value packs. You can save up to 52% with this offer – the value of the savings will vary depending on the product. Your math is absolutely correct for smaller packs, such as a 4-pack of What’s Left volumes. You save more on larger packs. For example, 16 volumes of Crostics at the regular low price of $5.25 is $84. A special collections value pack of 16 volumes is just $39.95, which is a 52% savings. Hope this helps clarify and that you enjoy this great deal. Happy solving!

Thanks for explaining that. CC, does your ad say "up to" 52%? If so, then I would agree it means it's the maximum savings among the many offers being
advertised at once. If it says "up to" and you didn't notice the "up to" phrase, that explains it. But if the "up to" phrase were somehow left out of your ad,
then there would indeed be a problem.

It's like the Penny Select Puzzles. They say they are 64 pages. Yeah, when you count 5 answer pages and 2 ad pages. I thought it meant 64 puzzles. Is it just me that thinks this way of doing business is a little misleading? CC

Hi CC,

Thank you for the feedback. Our 64-page volumes do include the answer pages and ads, but they contain at least 57 puzzles and sometimes up to double that amount. We apologize if the page count is misleading and will take it into consideration for future marketing efforts.

Thanks for enjoying our puzzles and forum!

Best,

Good idea, admin, to start advertising the number of PUZZLES in a magazine, whether or not you also advertise the number of pages. I'm sure most
readers would want to know how many puzzles they're getting, and the number of pages would be secondary (if they even cared at all about that
latter).
