Hi folks,

I wonder if anyone else was saddened to hear that Merl Reagle suddenly passed away last week. Apparently he had a relationship with Dell Crosswords at one point. His crosswords are a lot of fun to solve. I read on his web site that they will continue to publish a weekly puzzle from his archives. He was one of the more entertaining crossword creators out there and along with Will Shortz rescued the crosswords from the stogy academic form it had become.

Let me share a quip of his from "Wordplay" the documentary film. "Dunkin Donuts - move the D to the end and it says 'Unkind Donuts'."

I just saw that on the Penny Dell Facebook page. Coincidentally I received a few old magazines in the mail from an ebay purchase today, and one was a Crosswords Crosswords magazine where Merl was able to place three 21-letter answers in the top three and bottom three rows (six in all), leading to an intruiging grid. (It was, of course, a challenger puzzle in the book.) I've attached a picture here so you can see the grid; pretty amazing!
